The ABCs of Managing Challenging Behaviors, Part 1
August 20, 2025
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm @ Online Event
The Family Resource Center (FRC) of San Mateo County invites parents/caregivers to this online training on the ABC model of managing challenging behaviors for children with autism and/or developmental disabilities. This workshop is part one of a two part series. Part two will be presented the following week on Wednesday, August 27th.
In part 1 of this workshop, parents/caregivers will learn:
- How to understand existing behavior patterns using an ABC (antecedent, behavior, consequence) learning model.
- How to decrease unwanted behaviors and increase more appropriate behaviors instead.
- How to identify functions of behavior, or what the child is attempting to get by doing a specific behavior.
Part 1 of this series helps parents understand existing behavior patterns. Part 2 will build on this information to help parents create proactive plans to eliminate challenging behavior over time. It is recommended that interested parents/caregivers attend both parts, if possible.
This training is presented by Project AFECT (Autism Family Empowerment Coaching and Training) of Stanford Medicine Children’s Health. Their goal is to support families of children recently diagnosed with autism through coaching and education.
Presenter: Abbey Herringshaw, PhD – Clinical Psychologist in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics
Please note: If you need Spanish interpretation to participate, we require you to indicate this on your registration at least 7 days prior to the training.
